How to find what lights the fire and how it will help you with your Great Things
Welcome To The Community
Together, we’ll dive deep and find the strength to never give up because Great Things Take Time.
In case you haven’t realized, we’re on a journey to help you achieve your Great Things… or at least figure out what they are.
Previously, we’ve discussed some of the obstacles holding you back from achieving your dreams: listening to the opinions of others and not being able to get specific with what you need to do and what you want. While you may already know what you want from life and how to achieve it, if you’ve been following along, you may have noticed a pattern: I want you to go inward and listen to yourself.
You alone have the knowledge and power to tailor your actions to benefit your goals. I can send a billion newsletters, but only you know what’s going on in your mind and how you respond to various tweaks in actions.
Today is less of a discussion of an obstacle and more of a pit stop to refuel before you get back to the work.
If you were forwarded this email, you can subscribe and join the Great Things Take Time Community to get content from me every Monday.

Be An Enthusiast
Mondays can be like the first of January. It’s the start of a new month and the beginning of a New Year. Possibilities are endless, and you’ve got some goals or intentions. The same thing goes for the beginning of your week: You may have a list of things to complete at work or home and perhaps something a bit loftier.
But did you pencil in your time to be an enthusiast?
There is a lot of time during the week focused on our goals and responsibilities. The things we have to do or what we feel like we have to do. But what would you do if you checked off your task list? Where are you spending those extra 10 minutes when you arrive at your destination early? How are you disconnecting from your life and reconnecting with yourself?
We all have a thing where the hours feel like seconds because we’re having so much fun. If we were put in a room full of people who liked the same things, we could talk for hours about this topic, geeking out about the specifics, thought leaders, or our personal likes. It’s the thing that might make your friends or partner roll their eyes because you somehow managed to bring it up in expert-level detail AGAIN. It’s the YouTube videos you have on repeat, the books you read (maybe the only type of book you’ll read these days), or the podcasts you listen to. You’ve at least once considered traveling a long distance to partake in something or meet someone related to this thing.
Anytime you’re immersed in this thing, you walk away feeling inspired, lighter, and more in touch with who you are as a person. You’re more relaxed and less likely to snap at someone.
You feel like you.
Now, that alone should help prove to you why this is beneficial. When you feel more like yourself and have time to decompress, you have more energy, you’re less burnt out, and things don’t seem as overwhelming or difficult to deal with.
If you haven’t guessed by now, my main enthusiastic passion revolves around cars. It’s not because I’m trying to be a chest-thumping, heavy-weight-lifting, fast-car-driving man. If you’ve read this newsletter long enough, you know I’m not big on getting put into a box. It’s more than that for me, and always has been. My love for cars started as a child in my Uncle Gene’s junkyard and has grown into a passion that inspires me, motivates me, and relaxes me.
I love the intricacies that go into the mechanics of the car and the possible options you can take to improve it. Just like humans, there is always a new adaptation or tweak we can make to make things faster, smoother, or whatever other goal we have. I see cars as an extension of who we are, and like the way people dress, it’s fascinating to see how others choose to represent themselves.
When I take long drives alone without sounds other than what comes from the road and my car, I find that I can finally hear myself think. I can work through problems in my life or feel my stress levels subside. Plus, I’m usually driving to something where I will be surrounded by people who have the same passion and excitement for cars as I do.
No matter what happens in my life, in the gym, or at work, I know that I can get in my car and find solace. If I have 10 extra minutes to spare, I’m reading up on my passion instead of mindlessly scrolling, letting my mood be dictated by the algorithm.
So, what’s your thing? What’s the thing that makes you feel like yourself? Where you can finally breathe?
Learning what your thing is and intentionally working it into your life will help you with your Great Things because it will give you a pit stop to recharge, re-inspire, and re-connect. Just like how you can’t achieve a Great Thing if you can’t make a specific plan, you can’t achieve a Great Thing if you don’t feel like you have joy or passion in your life. Who knows, maybe your Great Things will be related to your enthusiastic passion.
You can’t always be going at 100 miles an hour; you’ll run out of fuel if you don’t take time to gas up and see the sights.
Moments with Maurice
If you only pause to reflect on your life for one moment today, do it now.
Mapping out your specific plans is a recipe for success.
Below I’ve included a worksheet on how to get specific so that you are able to achieve your Great Things. It’s not meant to be perfect, so don’t be afraid of change if things are different down the line. You’re not making a contract with yourself, it’s just a roadmap.

Reflection: Go through the worksheet above. Put it on paper or a notebook, make it tangible!
Prompt: Which section was the hardest to examine? Did you feel like there was a block holding you back from diving in further? What can you learn from where you are meeting resistance.

Behind the Scenes
Shooting for a brand collab between Peloton and a mystery brand 😉 I know you all love vagueness.
Even Peloton instructors need accountabili-buddies. It’s much easier to get into things when you have someone there to motivate you.

Damn, They Put Their Foot In This
Mission Ceviche was the restaurant of choice this week for some much needed catch up with my sister. Don’t wait to hang out with the people you love. On our plates was ceviche (of course), octopus, I had a Tallarin Saltado, and my sister got a Branzino. The Tres Leches was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life.

Not My Cars, But I Can Still Drool Over Them
Seen in the wild: This car is literally called BMW2002. Basically it’s old and rare not made in 2002

An RTD Shifter (not to be confused with R2D2) for my E92. It’s a more direct shifter so that there is no slop in it when you change gears. Frankie has some feelings about it.
